Nike - Restricted Substance List (RSL)
What is Restricted Substance List (RSL)?

Nike's Restricted Substance List (RSL) establishes chemical standards for materials that not only meet but also surpass global regulatory and legislative requirements. It encompasses substances that Nike has voluntarily chosen to restrict or limit in its products. Compliance with these standards is mandatory for all Nike factories and vendors, who bear the responsibility of ensuring the compliance of pre-production materials.

The Problems

There was an existing manual system that was complex and time-consuming to fill out various forms and evaluate samples. Additionally, there were communication gaps between vendors/suppliers and the Nike lab team. The forms contained redundant data, and there was a reliance on customer services. Furthermore, marketing demand and pre-production supply issues were present. Lastly, there was a lack of a dashboard for monitoring and tracking relevant information.

    The Challenges

The Nike RSL team currently dedicates 3 - 4 hours per 6 days of the week to manually source, screen, distribute, track, and document sample materials lab reports. The team finds the current process to be tedious and challenging to manage. The objective is to minimize the invaluable efforts, time consumption, and resource-intensive manual work.

    The Goal & Users

NIKE and its Affiliates design, market and sell footwear, apparel, accessories, athletic equipment, and related products in 160 countries around the world.

Make a single touch enterprise application instead of a challenging manual process that involved complex evaluation covered forms like TRF (Test Request Form), QRF (Query Request Form), and FRF (Fail Response Form), for respective brands Nike, Hurley, and Converse, etc.

The application uses a variety of scenarios to represent three different user group types, including Nike Vendors, Suppliers, and Nike Lab.
